Nexus introduces the Heel Switch System

(METS 2009) The Nexus Heel Switch System provides unparalleled accuracy for speed and depth data automatically on all types of sailing yachts. The team at Nexus developed the Heel Switch System to solve the problem experienced by many yachts when the speed and depth transducers need to be installed away from the centre line causing speed discrepancies on either tack or requiring separate transducers. These variances are common on multi-hulls, modern day short handed yachts and older classic keel style designs. The Heel Switch System consists of two small heel boxes, one for port and one for starboard, into which the two pairs of transducers are wired. These boxes process the raw speed, water temperature and depth data into the Nexus protocol automatically selecting the correct box depending on which tack / gybe the yacht is on. The switching between the port and starboard boxes is done automatically depending on the heel of the boat, provided by a HPC Compass. If no such compass is fitted the switching will be made on the apparent wind angle. The Nexus Heel Switch System provides an innovative and reliable way of solving an ongoing problem at a price that makes this system a realistic option for all yacht owners.
